We had our annual FreezeFest in early March. While the past few FreezeFests have featured t-shirt weather, this was definitely a freezer fest! Despite the cold, we had four of our newer members put up some very respectable pyromusicals. We will feature them here over the next few days. Check out the comments section for some background on the not-so-blind design feature. If you are not already a KCAP member, we welcome you to check us out. No experience necessary, just a love for Pyro. We have some great events scheduled this year! ... See MoreSee Less

We had a rack building work day today, focusing on standardizing the dimensions of our 4" and 5" mortar racks. There was a good turnout, so much got done! It was pretty much assembly line work with 3 saws going and a rack spacing/assembly jig. If you'd like to see these in full use (and many, many more and much larger), join us at Pyromania 2019 in September at Cedar Lake Winery in Wright City, MO, where KCAP will be closing out the night with the Grand Finale pyromusical! ... Here's the Grand Finale pyromusical from Thunder on the Plains designed by members Steve and Brandon (aka Firecat8, the source of these great videos) with set up assistance by many KCAP members. This display was a combination of professional and consumer fireworks and a nice selection of gas mines, even some colored fireballs! Crank up the volume and enjoy! youtu.be/iwam7C5Ie_Uyoutube.com ... See MoreSee Less

Thunder on the Plains pyromusical #5 was put together by this writer. This song was begging to have a pyromusical scripted to it, so here you go!

Thunder on the Plains - pyromusical #4 of 6, was designed, choreographed, scripted and executed by KCAP member Curtis. He takes a good amount of good natured ribbing as he uses a different firing system (FireTek) than the rest of the club (Cobra), but he really does represent FireTek well. I think you'll see from his pyromusical that he has become a talented pyrotechnician and show designer. youtu.be/Cbk1Gm7Ke7wI give Curtis a lot of crap about Firetek - clearly it has motivated him! ... We missed a day in our series of Thunder on the Plains pyromusicals as we wanted to collect and add some background information for this particular pyromusical done by a group of junior pyrotechnicians, mentored by senior pyrotechnicians. This display was orchestrated by 6 kids, all girls, ranging in age from 11 to 18. One girl had a major role in the design. She was 16. The show let the group learn a number of new techniques including changing the timing of cakes, using QM sleeves as an i-match port, use of single shots and single shot racks, and using individually matched reloadable shells/comets. Despite some audio issues (fixed in post editing) the girls thought the final result was entertaining and they're already plotting for next year. On the way home they spoke about how they are lucky/blessed to have such a prominent stage to perform on. We love their music selection and we think you'll enjoy their display! Please comment so they have some useful feedback to help them hone their craft. youtu.be/Me1kj4lbCbYyoutube.com ... See MoreSee Less
